MODES OF TRANSPORT FOR PATIENTS

AIR AMBULANCE:
Air Ambulance is a term broadly used to cover the use of Aeromedical transport using Fixed Wing Aircraft or Rotor Aircraft to transfer Critically Ill patients to the closest Medical facility providing Excellent Medical Care. Air Ambulance can be categorized in to 2 types:
1. Fixed Wing: Comprises mainly of Turbo props and Jets.
2. Rotor Wing: Comprises mainly of helicopters.
An air ambulance is used on an urgent basis to retrieve a critically ill patient or while evacuating patients from remote areas as well as hilly regions where the medical facilities are inadequate or absent and to transport these patients under ICU settings to the closest medical facility best suited for the patients condition.
The aircraft should be pressurised and have ICU trained medical crew with portable critical care medical equipment catering to the condition of the patient. The air ambulance travel time to the closest medical facility should be minimum for bed to bed or Wing to Wing transfer

COMMERCIAL FLIGHT STRETCHER TRANSFER:
Doctor/Nurse/Paramedic, or a combination of these, to transfer patients using scheduled commercial aircraft Patient’s condition must be stable & Oxygen can be
administered upto 4L/mt. Discrete, private and unobtrusive. Comfortable for the
patient Stretcher used for patients unable to walk to the Toilet

Patient must be non-infectious to other passengers Patient must have an Adult Diaper in place with Bladder Catheterization or Bedpan / Urinal Direct, pressurised flights & help to reach the final destination faster Medical escorts will arrive the previous day and visit the patient to check Fitness to Fly All Commercial repatriations are subject to approval by the International Carrier Should Oxygen be required, ARMS can arrange the same from the Airline Medical Clearance for the Stretcher flight will be arranged by the ARMS Operation Team in liaison with the Airline Medical Department.

COMMERCIAL FLIGHT BUSINESS CLASS TRANSFER:
Doctor/Nurse/Paramedic, or a combination of these, to transfer patients using scheduled commercial aircraft Patient’s condition must be stable & Oxygen can be
administered upto 4L/mt. Patient must be able to walk to the Toilet on his own or with
help Comfortable for the patient who can be brought in with a Wheelchair to his seat.
Patient must be non-infectious to other passengers Direct, pressurised flights & help to reach the final destination faster Medical escorts will arrive the previous day and visit the patient to check Fitness to Fly All Commercial Business class repatriations would require Medical clearance if Oxygen or any other special medical
equipment is needed for flight Should Oxygen be required, ARMS can arrange the same from the Airline Medical Clearance for the Business class flight will be
arranged by the ARMS Operation Team in liaison with the Airline Medical Department.

ROAD AMBULANCE TRANSFER :

Basic Life Support Road Ambulance ( BLS ) is used for Stable patients who need to be transported to the closest hospital & who may require only Oxygen, IV fluids & Medical observation of Vital signs and parameters by a trained Nurse or Paramedic
during the transfer. In case IV medication is required, a Doctor would be necessary for the transfer to hospital or for Inter Hospital transfer.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Road Ambulance or Advanced Life Support Ambulance ( ACLS / ALS ) is used for UnStable or Critically Ill patients who need to be transported to the closest Tertiary Care hospital or Inter Hospital transfer & will
require Oxygen with Invasive or Non Invasive Ventilation, IV fluids, Emergency IV Medication & Medical Monitoring of Vital signs and parameters by an ICU trained Doctor & Nurse during the transfer.
